Magnetic Flux

Magnetic Flux Leakage/Exclusion is a method of identifying defects in carbon steel plates and cables by introducing a magnetic field in a scanning pattern over a ferrous material to measure areas of material loss. MFE is an effective tool in storage tank bottom plate inspection, cables, and on materials where only one side is exposed.

Certification Requirement:

  • API – MFL scanning certification

MFE Scanning Results:

  • Locating and mapping of found defects with remaining wall calculations.
  • Precise marking of areas for UT examination.

Bottom Plate Repairs:

MFE Limitations:

Materials with surface scale build-up, damaged coatings, uneven surfaces, residual product, water, excessive slopes, topside damage, and curved surfaces.
